Information and Communcation Technology and Administrative Effectiveness of Nigerian Distance Education

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between information and Communication Technology (lCT) and administrative effectiveness of Nigerian distance education. A cor-relational study was adopted. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 300 respondents ranging from the directors, state coordinators, study centres managers and supervisors. Test re-test reliability was used to determine the reliability index at the information and Communication Technology Questionnaire (lCTQ) and Distance Education Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (DEAEQ) instruments. Pearson Product Moment Correlation and t-test statistics were used to determine the correlation coefficient and differences between the dependent and independent variables in the hypotheses formulated. The findings revealed that information and communication technology is significantly related to administrative effectiveness of distance education and that there is no significant difference in the utilization of information and communication technology in conventional institutions and distance education it was recommended that more efforts should be geared towards the provision of adequate information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to Nigerian distance educational institutions. Evenry centre coordinator should be trained in computer skills in particular and information and communication technology in general in order to enhance their administrative effectiveness.
