Abstract: | Journals on library and information profession support scholarly communication and update of knowledge among the library and information professionals both in practice and in training. The purpose of the study is to know the available and challenges with journals on library and information profession in Kogi State University Library, Anyigba, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted. The instruments of data collection are questionnaire and personal observation. The questionnaire comprises of two (2) Tables. Simple percentage were used to analyzed Table 1; while criterion Mean (X) weight of 2.50 were used for Table 2 where, ≥ 2.50 is significant (considerable response) and < 2.50 is not significant (inconsiderable response). Data analyzed in Table 1 which is availability of Journals on Library and Information Profession shows that library understudy has 16 (12.1%) and do not have 116 (87.9%) out of 132 itemized journals of local and foreign, peer reviewed, academic and professional journals on library and information profession. Data analyzed in Table 2 which is challenges associated with availability of journals on library and information profession indicate the following: lack of gift of journals, poor budget allocation to the library, poor donation of the journals, absence of library policy on professionals journals acquisition, inadequate fund, theft and mutilation of the journals, just among others. Recommendations were proffered to ensure there is very great extent of availability of journals on library and information profession in the Kogi State University Library. |
