Abstract: An understanding of the concept of education, demands the application of a variety of ideas bordering on such terms which include, instruction, training and curriculum. None of these terms can be equated to the concept of education but an indication of it. Consequently, an educated fellow or individual is presumed to have acquired substantially the attributes of the identified virtues of education. The teacher in a formal classroom setting is placed in the heart of the education process and determines how it proceeds. Thus, this paper examines the concept of education and the training available for the production of a sound teacher with particular reference to Nigeria.
