Effects of Oral Instruction on Senior Secondary One Students' Achievement in Spoken English in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

Abstract

The inability of the Secondary School Students to speak English language convincingly and with confidence in social and formal interactions necessitated this study. The study investigated the effects of Oral Instruction on SS1 Students' Achievement in Spoken English in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. The specific objective of the study was to determine the pre-test posttest mean score achievements of the experimental and the control groups in English Vowels and Consonants production/articulation. The quasi-experimental research design was used for the study. The findings of the study revealed that instruction in oral English significantly improved the spoken English achievement of the experimental group. It, implies that the teaching of oral English should be given the much needed attention and prioritized by teachers of English.
