Item Pedagogical Approach for Effective Teaching of English Language in Nigerian Secondary Schools(Journal of Asian Multicultural Research for Educational Study, 2020-12-03) Olarewaju, Ogundele Michael; Oparinde, Yemi; Ogechi, EmmanuelThis paper examined the pedagogical approaches to the teacher learning of English language in Nigerian secondary schools. However, the paper identified the concepts and types of pedagogical approaches. The factors affecting pedagogical approach for effective teaching and learning of English language. It was therefore concluded that the most effective pedagogical approach for the teaching-learning process of English language is the use of child centredness approach, activity oriented prorgamme it was therefore recommended that teachers should be curriculum. It is therefore important that Academic Library should be given a stake holder roles for the Nigeria’s economic developmentItem Insurgency and Quality Assurance in Nigeria Secondary Education(KIU Journal of Social Sciences, 2019) ESTHER TOYIN EZEOFOR; MICHAEL OLAREWAJU OGUNDELE; TIMSON IFEANYI NDUPUECHIThe study was on insurgency and quality assurance on secondary education in Nigeria. The aim of the study was to examine how insurgency impedes quality secondary education. The study was guided by three basic research questions. The study adopted the crosssectional survey design. The population was 13,661 while the sample was 220 respondents. A structured four-point Likert-type scale was used for data collection. The questionnaire reliability index is 0.72. The personal contact method was used to collect data while the mean was used for data analysis. Result showed that access to secondary education is negatively affected by insurgency through killing of students, teachers and destruction of school buildings. In the same manner, quality and equity in access to education have been truncated by insurgent attacks. The study recommended that the government should provide alternative education to take care of those whose access to education has been disrupted by insurgent attacks. The study concluded therefore that insurgent attacks have negative influence on quality assurance in secondary education in Nigeria.Item Use of Social Networking Sites amongst Undergraduates: A Case Study of Department of Theatre and Film Arts, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria(Research Journal of Library and Information Science, 2019) Victor Chuks NwokediThis study examined the Usage Patterns of Social Networking Sites (SNSs) amongst Undergraduate Students of Department of Theater and Film Arts, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos, Nigeria. The study was guided by nine objectives. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The target population was all the 348 First year Students in the Department of Theater and Film Arts, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos. Since, the population (348) was manageable; there was no need for sampling. Hence, all the students were adopted in the research. The research instrument adopted was questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages and means. The findings of the study revealed among others that: the students of Department of Theater and Film Arts make use of SNSs; they used Mobile Phones to access the SNSs; their preferred access point for using the sites were hostels and lecture halls in that order; most of the students admitted to be a member of at least one SNS. However, their main purposes for using the SNSs were to maintaining social contacts with friends/relatives and for academic purposes. Nevertheless, their preferred SNSs were Facebook and WhatSapp in that order; they also admitted that the main benefits of SNSs could be expressed in Social Activities, Academic Exercises, Information Dissemination and Business Activities. However, it was recommended among others that: University of Jos Management should organize seminars, conferences and workshops on the benefits of using SNSs for academic purposes. However, the negative aspects or the dangers associated with the use of the SNSs and ways to avoid them should also be highlighted. The research therefore, concludes that the undergraduate students of Department of Theater and Film Arts, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos, use SNSs. No doubt the use of SNSs have some educational benefits, there is a need to educate students about the ways of using SNSs and the perils associated with it, to help them understand that though very much in trend, they should be used cautiously.
